This past weekend, I had the opportunity to go take some photos for couples attending a valentine’s dinner at a local venue. It’s a new place – Sundowner Key – that opened just a few miles from our house. The owner, AJ, said he always loved the beach, but when he realized he was going to be landlocked in WV because he didn’t want to move away from his family, he decided to bring the beach here.
I don’t know what it’s like where you live, but people around here sometimes do things, well, halfway. Someone will have a good idea, and then the execution is sorely lacking. Not so here. It’s a small building, but everything is done so well.
He even paid attention to details like making a bamboo podium (and he showed me an idea for a bamboo shot glass he’s working on as a souvenir – how clever!)
Interestingly, I found out about the place/owner when I was selling a random palm tree I had sitting in a corner of my office on craigslist. He bought it, I dropped it off and got a grand tour of the place. Not only is the inside done well, but behind the building is a great tiki hut, a boat featuring a bar and stage, and plenty of patio seating. I’m excited to see it busy this summer!
Thanks for having me over, AJ, and many wishes for your success. My hope is that I pursue the same kind of excellence. If you’re local and want to book a party, you can visit their site here. (And no, I’m not being compensated in any way – I just really liked it!)
What about you – have you seen something that impressed you like this? I love it when something exceeds my expectations!
