Several years ago, my husband and I took a trip to Arkansas to visit my mother-in-law’s family. While there, his great-aunt gave us this orange pressed-glass bowl because she knew of our love for art glass (namely, Blenko). We thanked her for her generosity and later wondered aloud to each other, “What are we going to DO with that orange bowl?” It was large, totally didn’t fit in to our then-decor, we had absolutely nothing like it in our house, and it was – in fact – orange. So we put it on a shelf above the cabinets in our pantry and there it sat. For years.
Fast forward to my bookshelf-redo and I really wanted something orange. What can I say – the color has grown on me of late, and I had bought two orange throw pillows for the couch, and I loved the orange in the painting in the living room that our friend Seth Hill painted. Then I remembered that awful bowl (surprisingly not so awful anymore) and got it down off the shelf, gave it a good wash (dust, anyone?) and placed it on the bookshelf.
Then I got it back down a week later to photograph it so I could tell you all about it.
Surely I’m not the only one whose style changes through the years – so what did you used to like that you hate now? Or hate that you like now? Do you have any orange bowls – figuratively speaking?

Pictures of Evan’s MiMi’s bowl makes it more beautiful than I remembered. She is smiling from Heaven to know you love her bowl. Brings back so many memories…I can see it sitting in the middle of her round oak clawed foot coffee table with Evan, Jenny and Amy sitting around it eating a snack. But I also remember it from many more years before that. She loved it BECAUSE it was orange…her favorite color.
