I’m not big on New Year’s Resolutions. I have just never gotten into them. But I do tend to assess things around this time of year and set a few goals for the year. I usually write them down and tape them to my desk so I can check in every couple months to see how I’m doing. So this year I thought I’d share them with all of you.
In 2010 I’d like to:
1. Lose 10 pounds. That’s less than a pound a month. Surely that’s doable, right? I had this same goal last year, and, well, I weigh the same as I have for two years. Which is better than weighing more, I suppose. However, I’ve had a stomach bug the last couple days, and have probably already met my January goal. Not bad for day 2.
2. Photograph 10 weddings. (Look a 10 theme). Last year I did seven. The year before, four. With the kids being so little, I’m not sure that I could do more than about 12 well this coming year. So 10 sounds like a good goal.
3. Yell less. I know this isn’t a quantifiable goal, but the fact is, I’m a yeller. You could call me Old Yeller. When I’m really impatient or grumpy or haven’t had my coffee or the living room is too messy or…you get the idea… I start to yell. I really dislike this about myself. I’m sure my kids don’t love it, either. Or my husband for that matter.
4. Spend more time with people. In real life. Facebook, blogging and twitter doesn’t count.
5. Learn something new. I have a laundry list of things I’d like to learn: how to play my mandolin, how to paint, how to throw pottery, how to make a fantastic creme brulee, how to master off-camera lighting for portraits. These are just a few. I’d settle for one of them this year.
6. Get organized…again. I used to be queen of organization. I had a place for everything, and everything was in its place. Then I had a baby, and things got a little hectic. Then I had another baby and some days it looks like Toys ‘R Us exploded in my living room, and three months of junk mail exploded on my desk. I know life with two toddlers is messy (in more ways than one), but I’d like to at least get back on the path toward organization.
So what about you? Do you make resolutions? Do you make goals? What are they? I like it when you guys share.
i need to know if you were quoting rosie from the jetsons in this blog…?
My goal is to exercise more so I can tone up this body as I lose weight. Lose 75 pounds in addition to the 107 I have already lost. (for those of you that don’t know, I had bariatric surgery in May 2009). Get rid of clutter in the house. Travel to places I have never been, which Dave and I are planning that already. Chicago, Green Bay, Madison, Kanasas City, St. Louis, Louisville and back home in a week. Spend more time with the grandkids and help give you a break every now and then. Help others in need because I have all I need.
I have many goals this year…..some of them have been the same goals for many years!! Get rid of clutter-yes Jane you heard me-hard to belive isn’t it? Take time to do things I like to do-read more, walk, sew, create things, reconnect with friends, spend time with the people I love, travel to a few new places-to name a few. And as always, lose some weight. For the most part, I am blessed and am content with the life I have. Counting my blessings is always on my list.
be more like jesus… and my awesome sister-n-law kelli dailey!
I want to play the mandolin as well! I already bought it–its just a matter of going down and getting lessons! Amy thinks that you, me, and beej need to get together and be a mandolin trio. ha! other than that… i am resolved to find a job that makes me happy. i am tired of settling on something because it is “just a job.” well, this is “just” my life and i am ready for it to be something that i am proud of 100%.
@Autumn – I’m in. I, too, have a mandolin. It’s sat in the corner in my office since Evan bought it for me three years ago as an anniversary present. I have learned one cord. Not much you can play with one cord. :-/
