And the winner is… comment #5 – Brit! Congratulations, Brittany. I’ll be making your cookies today.
For the rest of you, enjoy this delicious recipe for Raisin Jingle Jumbles, a soft molasses cookie my grandfather started making about 15 years ago after seeing the recipe in the local newspaper. I really haven’t met anyone who doesn’t like these cookies, so give them a shot.
Raisin Jingle Jumbles
3/4 C. butter
1 C. packed brown sugar
1/4 C. molasses
1 egg
2 1/2 C. flour
2 t. baking soda
1 t. ginger
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. ground cloves
1/2 t. salt
1 1/4 C. raisins (I prefer golden)
granulated sugar as needed
In a bowl or large mug, heat a cup of water until steaming. Add in raisins. Set aside. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Add molasses and egg – beat until fluffy. Sift together flour, soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Mix dry ingredients into molasses mixture. Drain raisins, and stir into batter. Chill batter for 10-15 minutes. Form dough into walnut sized balls, and roll in granulated sugar to coat generously. Place 2″ apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes until edges are firm and centers are still slightly soft. Cool on rack, and serve. Makes 2 dozen, so feel free to double…they don’t last long.
My favorite is the peanute butter cookies with a hershey kiss on top. SO GOOD>
My favorite Christmas cookie (which I can’t eat anymore, well maybe just one) is date pinwheel. Now that’s a cookie to eat with a great cup of coffee.
My favorite are the 7 layer cookies. My mom always made these and they have everything I love in them!
I have many favorites: choc. chips, pecan tassies, snickerdoodles, wedding cookies (those rolled in tons of powdered sugar. I’m disqualifying myself from the contest ’cause your blog made me hungry, so I went to get another RAISIN MOLASSES cookie that you made on Cookie Day. Mmm-mmmm good! There are two left, and I’m hiding them from Rich.
White Chocolate Chip Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies…YUM!
snickerdoodles! how can you not love a cookie with a name like that?
Um, I was sure that oatmeal raisin was my favorite until you made those delicious maple cookies with my favorite ingredient sprinkled on top! Those are my favorite now! Although, the kind Brit mentioned sound delicious! Sorry.. I’m a fickle cookie lover.
My favorite is probably Austrian Twists. This cookie is more like a delicate pastry rolled up like a cresent roll with cinnamon, sugar, and chopped pecans on the inside with a simple confectioner sugar glaze on top. Now this is a cookie that is great with a hot cup of tea. Can’t wait—-think I will go make some.
My favorite is the chocolate oatmeal nobake with peanut butter but only as long as someone else bakes them because mine never turn out very good. Hmmm…come to think of it any cookie that someone else bakes is my favorite!
