Fabric Wall Panel

Ages ago, in the throws of our second remodel project, my husband had to remove a window from our dining room and we were left with an ugly patched drywall job. I had seen this idea in Real Simple (my favorite magazine, hands down), and knew it would hold us over until we could find something else for the spot. The Husband has since built a lovely framed mirror for the spot, and the fabric frame had been in retirement.

Now, in the throws of our third remodel project, a window from my office was removed and moved to the new space, and again I had the hole-in-the-wall to cover. However, I was bored out of my mind with the old fabric, so I figured a fabric shower curtain would do the trick, and I found this one at Kohl’s. Large repeating pattern, durable fabric, inexpensive. Perfect! Plus, I have extra fabric I can use for throw pillows or smaller panels in my daughter’s room, which has a similar color scheme.

Anyway – here’s how do DIY.

Fabric Wall Panel
1. Measure your space, and construct a square using 1×1″ strips of wood. Screw together. Add one center bar parallel to the longest side for reinforcement.

2. Place screen on fabric, deciding how you want the pattern to fit inside. Cut fabric, leaving an extra 2-3″ on each side for wrapping around the edges.

3. Wrap fabric around edge of frame. Secure using a staple gun. Be sure to stretch the fabric evenly and taught.

4. Be careful to wrap the corners neatly, and secure the fold to keep it in place.

5. Hang and enjoy.
