I photographed a wedding this past weekend in a chapel that had stained glass from Blenko. I almost immediately realized I hadn’t yet blogged about my love of Blenko here, and would have to get right on it so you might not go another day without knowing about it.
Blenko glass is a fabulous little blown glass company in Milton, WV (about 10 minutes from where I live). Their modern shapes and vivid colors knock my socks off. So much so, that it’s the only thing I collect. My (modest by anyone’s standards) collection includes about a dozen pieces, but I have Blenko in nearly every room of the house.
My most recent purchase, a turquoise vase, sits atop my round table in my office. I love, love the color. And what a fun shape!
If you live in WV and have never visited Blenko’s visitor’s center, go. Now. They have tons of seconds (pieces with minor imperfections) at significantly discounted prices, an interesting display upstairs, and an observation deck where you can watch the glass blowers at work.
Blenko comes in nearly every color imaginable, and you can collect older pieces (check eBay) if you’re really into the mid-century modern style. And who doesn’t want a piece of beautiful hand-made something in their house?

You and I need to set aside a time to go together and visit. I have never been there and have wanted to go for sometime. Maybe you could get a baby sitter and we could go during the week sometime. I would like to get a piece to match my dining room color for the table.

Count me in too! Let’s do it on girls day out after Thanksgiving! I, fortunately, have been a few times and it’s always fascinating to go watch them actually make the beautiful pieces that are available in the gift shop. I’m itching to add to my collection so let’s set a date!
